Indian Residential Schools

Marguerite Miller (1914-2001) served the United Church of Canada for over forty years as first a Deaconess and later as an Ordained Minister. In 1939, Marguerite completed her Deaconess training and undertook her first appointment, under the Board of Home Missions, was as a dietician at the Norway House Indian Residential School in Norway House, Manitoba, where she served for two years. In 1940 Marguerite was relocated to the Portage la Prairie Indian Residential School.  After additional study she was Ordained in 1949 and served 4 pastoral charges in rural Manitoba before retiring in 1983.
